DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening exploring the fascinating world of bats within Goathland Parish. \nEmma Walker will begin with an introduction and update on the River Esk Connect (REConnect) project\, highlighting how local communities\, land managers and volunteers are contributing to this important work – and how you can get involved! Toby Panter will then explain how they are monitoring bats in the National Park: from the species found locally to the technology used to detect and record their activity. After the talk\, we’ll head outdoors for a short guided bat walk\, using handheld detectors to hear bats in real time as they forage\, commute and interact at dusk. \nThis friendly\, relaxed event is perfect for anyone curious about wildlife\, conservation\, or the practical science taking place right on our doorstep. All welcome!

DESCRIPTION:Goathland is surrounded by superb countryside from the top of the moors down to the rich woodland in the Esk valley\, with a wealth of wild plants growing in the different habitats. \nWendy\, Whitby Naturalists\, will concentrate on sites within a short distance of the village\, highlighting some of the typical and special plants that grow here. She will also mention invasive\, non-native species and the value of making records. Wendy will be interested to hear from us about our favourite plant locations in the question session afterwards. \nEntry is free and light refreshments will be available. Hope to see you there!
