Superb turn out from volunteers for the second litter pick organised by the Goathland Nature Group. 24 willing volunteers attended for the Goathland Spring Clean Up on Sunday 12th April 2026. All in their high viz vests the team spread out over the village and the roads leading into the village for the two-hour session.
The weather wasn’t exactly on our side (wind and rain on and off all morning!) but, after an amazing effort, 17 bags of litter were removed from the countryside surrounding Goathland, as well as various parts of cars found strewn along the roadside. This was promptly taken to the Whitby household waste recycling centre.
We retired to the Inn on the Moor hotel in the centre of our beautiful village for a well-earned pint. Thanks go to all involved especially the extra help given by the group Whitby Litter Pickers who joined us for the days session.
It’s crucial to reduce our local litter. Not only does it taint our picturesque natural landscape, but it can also have far-reaching negative impacts for the wildlife and other animals that call them home. To make matters worse, plastics, metals, glass and other materials can persist in the environment for thousands of years, causing never-ending problems for the species we work so hard to protect.
Let’s work together to keep Goathland Litter Free!
